Upcountry Maui provides a hugely rewarding experience
October 26, 2007 | A place of serene beauty, Upcountry Maui provides a hugely rewarding experience to not only those with residential homes in Kula, Makawao, Olinda, etc. but to all residents of this beautiful island. A beautiful landscape and fresh mountain air provide the perfect backdrop for many enjoyable events not just on these wonderful slopes, but within them as well. A prime example of an "inside event" will be held on November 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30; a two hour hike through the otherworldly desert sands of Haleakala crater. This unique hike through the craters' Sliding Sands Trail will amaze you as you walk atop rich red and brown hued volcanic sands, while marveling at tall cinder cones amongst the tranquility of this desert in paradise. Tours start bright and early at 9:00 a.m., be sure to call ahead (808) 572-4400 for more information.
If you like to party, you may want to wait until the November 9th hike though; Casanova's will be holding a special event on the 1st at 9:00 p.m. to kick off the upcoming Hana Film Festival. Live music and great food in the fun atmosphere of Casanova's Italian restaurant in Makawao - a short drive from your ocean view Kula home, Pukalani condo, or just about any other property in Upcountry Maui. Tickets range in price from $20 to $25, for more info call (808) 572-0220.
For those of you with restless young ones in your new (or soon to be) Maui home, take a trip to the Makawao Public Library November 1st at 10:00 a.m. for Toddler Time. A fun and educational event for ages 1-5, there will be a variety of stories, songs, kiddy crafts, and the always fun hand puppets to entertain your whole family.
For even more family fun, check out the Kula School Harvest Festival taking place November 17th at the Kula Elementary School playground. Celebrating it's 20th year, this annual Festival in the heart of Upcountry Maui features great food, fantastic entertainment, crafts, games, a silent auction and much more, from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - admission is FREE!
