Painting, Music, Hula, and of course, Chinese New Year!
February 01, 2008 | There are some wonderful events taking place all across the island in February:
First up, on February 8th and 9th, we have a Chinese New Year Celebration in Lahaina Town. Come welcome the Year of the Rat on Friday the 8th from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Front Street with colorful lions dancing through the various shops. Come back on Saturday the 9th, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. for the full scale celebration as the 800 block of Front Street hosts the Chinese New Year street festival featuring Chinese Martial Arts demonstrations, lion performances accompanied by traditional Chinese music, firecrackers, food, children's activities and much more! This will be a great event for the whole family to enjoy, especially those coming out of their Upcountry Maui homes to enjoy the warmth of West Maui!
Next, on February 15th and 16th, at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, enjoy the melodic Hawaiian sounds and exquisite hula of Keali'i Reichel & Ha-lau Ke'alaokamaile. Winner of over 20 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, Keali'i has brought his amazing gift of music to the world stage, and will once again grace the Castle Theater with his prodigious talent. Finally, the 3rd Annual Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational will be taking place at various locations across West Maui from February 16th through the 23rd. An outdoor painting extravaganza, the Invitational will kick off on the 16th at Fleming Beach in Lahaina, followed by 5 days of competitive painting culminating on the 23rd with all paintings on display from 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Village Gallery Contemporary in Lahaina, with a 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Coffee and Pastries with the Artists and a 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Maui No Ka 'Oi Magazine Gala Reception.
