Maui Presentation on Fun Sustainability

On Wednesday the 28th, a talk will be held in Kihei by Mark Fenton, a national planning and public health expert. The theme: “Active Living by Design: The Most Fun You Can Have Being Sustainable”. Mr. Fenton should help to explain how sustainable community planning can improve everything from traffic and urban sprawl to obesity and disease. He has a great reputation as an entertaining, knowledgable and inspiring speaker. The best part is that the talk is intimate with Maui's challenges, specifically. In his discussion, Mr. Fenton will use visual examples of issues in the South Maui area to help people relate directly to problems facing Maui.
More on Mark: He used to host the PBS tv series called "America's Walking" and he is a contributing editor to Health magazine. He has published several books on walking as a way to stay in shape including “The Complete Guide to Walking for Health, Weight Loss, and Fitness” and “Pedometer Walking”. He has been working with the Healthy Hawaii Initiative of the Hawaii Department of Health on all the major islands to promote healthy lifestyles.
The presentation is partly sponsored by the Hawaii State Department of Health as well as the Healthy Hawaii Initiative. Visit http://southmauisustainability.com/ if you want more information on the kinds of sustainability projects that they are working on. Initiatives from one part of the island can certainly be implemented in another if successful. Even if the south shore is not your cup of tea, there should be some valuable information on the work being done there by Mark and the Hawaii State Department of Health.
This talk is free, and if you want location details, call 808-874-5955 or email maury@southmauisustainability.org.
We ourselves have several agents that are sustainability enthusiasts and who have impressive work to show for it. Ask us about green living. There are plenty of homes on Maui's North Shore that were planned with sustainable features in mind. Haiku homes in particular tend to attract those who want to live "off the grid". Remember though that our expertise is not limited to the North Shore, so if you have questions about real estate in other areas on Maui, don't hesitate to ask. You can email us at info@jimsandersrealty.com or call (808) 579-8255. Mahalo for reading and have a great weekend! |
