Maui Workshop on Non Profit Training
A workshop on non-profit training is coming up on August 11th which focuses on financial literacy and bookkeeping. This session is geared towards board members, directors and anyone else involved in the finances of the organization.
There are many good idealists out there who want to make a difference through non profit work of their own, but without a strong foundation in the financial mechanics of such an undertaking, you probably won't get very far, especially in a shaky economic climate.
The workshop is being held by Grants Central Station. Richard Kehoe will be presenting. He is a Certified Public Accountant and has worked as a nonprofit financial officer for some time, so he should have a broad knowledge base on the subject. He will discuss federal and state compliance issues along with effective bookkeeping.
Other topics of discussion will include finding a good CPA or bookkeeper, tax liability strategy, fundraising strategy, creating a cashflow statement, and preparing for a successful audit.
The workshop is free, thanks to a generous grant from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs as well as the donations of several others. A nice feature is that it isn't limited to one person per agency, but the whole organization can attend if they so choose. Call Leslie Mullens at (808) 280-6699 for more details. You will want to check in by 9:30a.m. and take advantage of the continental breakfast and networking contacts that you will have access to. The class will start at 10a.m.
