Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce Service Project

The Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce is holding their first service project of 2010 this month. That will be the restoration of Ko`ie`ie, an ancient Hawaiian fishpond located in North Kihei.
You can sign up to participate by emailing Melissa Beimes at melissab@oha.org or by calling 808-594-1899 and leaving your name, email, and phone number. The sign up deadline is January 25 and the outing will take place on January 30 between 8a.m. and noon.
Aside from the satisfaction of knowing that you will be helping to preserve a treasure of Maui's heritage, you will also be provided with lunch, and of course water.
You can learn more about Ko`ie`ie at www.mauifishpond.com. Work days like these are open to everyone. It's a great opportunity to do good and satisfying work while learning new things and also getting to know other people in the community who share your similar interests in preserving Hawaiian culture.
These restoration efforts are an ongoing process and you can volunteer or even become a board member. Depending on your specific talents, you may be able to help contribute to the education program, fund raising, grant writing, public relations, administrative support and several other important tasks. The restoration work is especially nice for those who enjoy the outdoors, the ocean and the ecology of Maui.
